About me

I want to make life less annoying.

I have always been the person asking "Why?"

I don't believe that you have to choose between being creative and technical.

My colleagues say I am patient, compassionate, thoughtful, and a force for good.

Let's find out what we can accomplish together.

The "life" part of "work-life balance"

If you're wondering how to pronounce "Flachsbart," it's like "flocks of sheep 🐑" + "bart."

I'm a singer and I'm learning to play the mandolin. Right now I'm practicing "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us" by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

I'm also a stained glass and mosaic artist. I'll be putting a link to my work here soon.

I have two Tonkinese cats, Artemis and Athena, who are 13 years old. Athena is very talkative, but Artemis mostly just squeaks.

I love to learn languages (find me on Duolingo) and I read a lot of history, fantasy, and science fiction.

My meme and GIF game is strong. Check out my collection of UX memes and favorite dataviz.

I highly recommend Erin. I have had the privilege of working with her for over four years as her manager. Together with our team, Erin has consistently demonstrated exceptional expertise as a product designer and design system content specialist.

Throughout my extensive career as a UX professional, I have collaborated with numerous talented designers, and Erin stands out for her exceptional language and writing skills, her background in frontend development and profound experience in complex web application design.

From the very beginning, I was impressed by Erin’s precision, thoroughness, efficiency and unwavering commitment to her work. Her contributions were truly impeccable.

She played a vital role in elevating our team’s UX capabilities, particularly when working with teams who had not previously collaborated with designers. Erin facilitated expedited development of our design system documentation site by identifying and integrating a suitable vendor solution. She conducted user research, designed reusable components, established guidelines for messaging and component usage and delivered comprehensive application solutions for our B2B customers.

However, it’s not only Erin’s technical skills that impress me. She consistently exudes a positive attitude, fosters teamwork and demonstrates great flexibility in tackling any challenges she encounters. Her compassion for others and exceptional listening skills have been invaluable to me and her peers, who relied on her for expert guidance and deliverables. Erin’s professionalism, dedication, and outstanding talent make her an invaluable asset to any team and organization.

Erin was the pioneer designer I brought on board to support a new and complex domain at Nielsen. As the inaugural UX resource, she played a pivotal role in defining the program's user experience. Through user journey mapping and task analysis, Erin established a strong UX foundation for the program's success.

Beyond her technical expertise, Erin excels at stakeholder engagement. She has a remarkable ability to garner support and alignment from key decision-makers, ensuring UX strategy is deeply integrated into the program's DNA.

Her versatility and diverse skillset further amplify her impact. Erin has made significant contributions to developing UX patterns and spearheading process innovation. If you seek a self-motivated, high-impact UX professional, look no further than Erin. She will be a strategic asset to any organization.

Erin has the superpower of being a developer in a past life making her talented in both fronts - dealing with UX and with communicating with the dev team.

Also, it's rare to find someone who really sees the big picture and is a force of good working independently in helping put everything in the right place in the right way. Furthermore, Erin is the type of worker that if you leave her with a project, there's no doubt that when you check in you'll see all the great things that could come out of that project without having to monitor it or her. She's independent, thoughtful and really motivated and anyone who worked with her knows they can rely on her for any project.

Your company would be lucky to have someone like Erin.

Working with Erin for the past two years was an absolute pleasure. She is a talented UX designer who has extensive experience working with developers. I've learned significantly from her. From the moment I joined Nielsen 2 years ago, Erin was there for me. She was like a mentor, guiding me through the product we were working on together. She's knowledgeable in UX, accessibility, and stakeholder management and is generous in sharing her experiences.

She's supportive and caring, but at the same time, always gives constructive feedback on design. I've worked with her on both product design and design system works. Her initiative on message standardization across products was a great help to a product designer like me and a major step in aligning products in a product family. Erin is a team player and a great asset to our UX team.
